You Have to be Qualified Before Taking Any Steps toward Your License

What does this mean? Qualifications are straightforward; you need to be at least 18 years old and hold a valid social security number. If you meet these criteria, congratulations you can start your journey to becoming a licensed real estate agent!

Take the 40-Hour Massachusetts Real Estate Training Course

This course covers all topics in real estate that must be thoroughly understood, and will eventually be tested on. It can be completed online or in person, but in recent years most people have been utilizing the online option. Freedom Trail Realty School is a great example of an online real estate school that preps students to become agents. While taking the 40-hour course, it is advised to do some additional studying outside of the classroom. Those who take the course normally utilize study guides and flashcards to aid them in their studying process. If you’re looking for some advice on how to pass your exam, Rentwise Boston features some great tips and tricks on how to pass your Massachusetts Salesperson Exam.

Apply to Take the Real Estate Licensing Exam

Once you’ve finished your 40-hour required course, you’re able to apply for the exam! An application process is required to do so. Your real estate course will go over all the paperwork that you must fill out and email to PSI. It can take a few weeks to get approved for the exam, in the meantime it’s best to use this time to continue studying.

Schedule and Pass the 120-Question Massachusetts Salesperson Exam

Looks like you’ve been approved, now what? It’s time to schedule your Massachusetts Salesperson Exam. This can be done either in person or proctored online. There are two parts to the exam; state and federal. The state portion of the exam consists of 40 questions, while 80 questions are allocated to the federal portion. It is required to score at least 70% on both sections to pass.

Find a Suitable Brokerage to Work for

Now that you’ve got your real estate license, it’s time to find a brokerage that suits your needs! Remember, all agents must work under a broker, as you are not allowed to practice real estate on your own. Figure out what your priorities are when looking for a workplace. Ask yourself questions like: What size team do I want to work on? Do I like a bigger office space or do I prefer to work from home? Identifying your work needs will help you to narrow down your options, and find a brokerage that suits you. Brokerages like East Coast Realty offer great training programs for agents who are starting out in real estate.
